A wilderness area between the Palen and McCoy Mountains northwest of Blythe. The dark areas in the midground are desert pavement. These surfaces are at least several tens of thousands of years old and some are a few hundred thousand years in age. The green swath in the background is an extensive forest of desert ironwood trees.
